AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the league
will take place on Wednesday 28th April at 8.00pm,
at Bury Leisure Centre. Clubs wishing to affiliate
are invited to attend the meeting, when officers
are elected, and the fixtures for the forthcoming
season are decided.
14/01/10
Trophies
There have been several enquiries about
the number of trophies that we award. Please note
that all individuals and teams mentioned in the
results section of the website will receive a trophy.
01/01/10
Awards
A list of award winners is now in the results
section. Could team managers please let me know
the numbers of extra trophies they require asap?
11/21/09
Rossendale Fixture
That was a muddy course! Hope you all enjoyed Marl
Pits at its best and managed to escape unscathed,
both physically and mentally. Please contact me
with any queries about the results before next Wednesday
16th December, as the committee will decide on the
final standings and awards on that evening. It will
not be possible to change any results after that
date and I know that there are individuals missing
from the overall standings. All award winners will
be published on the website and will receive a trophy
at the presentation evening in February. Tickets
will be distributed to affiliated clubs, and guests
who have won awards can contact me to reserve theirs.
Apologies to the U-15s who had
a short race due to a marshal’s error.
Several people have enquired
about the Astley and Tyldesley athlete who was
injured during the senior ladies race and required
hospital treatment and I am glad to say that she
was sent home after treatment and will be back
in competition soon. Hope to see you all at the
presentation.
30/11/09
Many thanks to Nick Howarth and Bolton Harriers
who set us a testing course at Leverhulme Park although
the conditions underfoot were pretty good considering
the rain we've had in November. Three fixtures down
with one to go at Rossendale where there will be
mud; lots of it. Please check the results so far
and report any mistakes to me or Graham Fecitt.
I would also be grateful if holders of individual
or team trophies could bring them to the last fixture.
16/11/09 Bury Fixture
Thanks to Ken Smith and his team at Bury for an
excellent day’s sport at the second fixture.
Hope everyone enjoyed the mud because I can’t
see conditions improving for the next two. If there
are any queries regarding results please let me
know.
13/10/09
The season got off to a good start at Witton
Park where conditions were unusually dry. Thanks
again to our hosts Blackburn Harriers and to all
of our officials and helpers. Please report any
errors in the results through team managers, or,
in the case of guest runners, to myself;
stevedux@btinternet.com
26/09/09 Change of
Venue
The first fixture will now be held at Witton Park,
Blackburn, instead of Bury. My apologies for the
late notice but the change of venue has been brought
about for reasons that were beyond our control and
I would be grateful if people could spread the word.
Sincere thanks go to Richard Taylor and his team
at Blackburn who have kindly stepped in at the last
minute to rescue the situation. Please note that
we will now be at Bury on 7th November for the second
fixture.
21/09/09
The Red Rose League welcomes guest runners
in all age groups at a cost of £4.00 per race.
Guests must register and obtain their numbers at
least 15mins before their race. Race registration
varies at each venue but is usually at Graham Fecitt’s
white van!
01/09/09
Please note that affiliated clubs must
register their athletes at the first committee meeting
of the season on Wednesday 16th September.
Team managers may also submit their data to Graham
Fecitt by email:
Affiliation fees are also due prior to the start
of the season.
At the April A.G.M. a number of rule changes were
made:
The U-11 boys and girls races
will be run separately. Start times
at all of the 4 meetings will be as follows:
Under 11
Boys 12.30
Under 11 Girls 12.45
Under 13 Boys & Girls 1.00
Under 15 Boys & Girls 1.15
Under 17 Boys & Girls, Junior, Senior, &
Veteran Ladies 1.35
Junior, Senior, & Veteran Men 2.15
We also agreed a change to Rule
5:
All team results should be based on the results
from 3 of the 4 meetings. This amendment will
be for next season only and will be reviewed at
the next A.G.M.
Please try to register as many athletes as possible
by the deadline so that the first fixture runs
smoothly, as in recent years the results service
has been unable to publish meaningful results
on the day due to not having the necessary data.
Good luck to everyone for the forthcoming season.
16/01/09
Thanks to everyone who has helped throughout
the season, which again has been
very successful with increased numbers participating
in almost every age group.
The overall winners were agreed at the last committee
meeting and are now posted
in the results section
so I look forward to seeing you all at the presentation
evening
on Friday 6th February, at the Horwich RMI club
(presentation starts at 8.00pm prompt). Tickets
have been distributed to the clubs who attended
the last meeting but are also
available to guests and others, through our Treasurer,
Joe Salt.
17/12/08
There will be mud! The course for the last fixture
is very heavy going underfoot and
I'm confident that it will provide a challenge for
all age groups. Please note that toilets, changing
and showers are in the building next to the track,
and not in the swimming
baths, and post race refreshments will be on sale
in the clubroom upstairs; drinks, pie
and peas etc. Parking is available at the sports
complex (turn immediately right
on entry). Should you have to park on Newchurch
Road, please do so carefully
and with courtesy to our neighbours. Guests may
register with Graham Fecitt in
the white van adjacent to the fire escape. After
a request from a non swimmer we
have construc.ted a bridge over the stream crossing
which should cope with the
larger seniors, although I won't expect a RIBA award.
Good luck to everyone.
Steve Duxbury
03/12/08
Well done to Nick and his team at Bolton
who prepared some excellent courses
which were enjoyed by everyone I have spoken with.
It was certainly good to return
to Leverhulme Park after a gap of several years
and hopefully we will be returning
again soon. I would be grateful if perpetual trophies
are returned to me at the
Marl Pits fixture so that they can be engraved and
presented to this season’s
winners in February. Could team managers check the
results from the previous
fixtures and report any discrepancies as soon as
possible so that everyone knows
where they stand going in to the final fixture.
I look forward to seeing everyone
at Marl Pits later this month.
13/11/08
Hope everyone is looking forward to our
return to Leverhulme Park on Saturday.
Please note that parking is available at the Leisure
Centre and in addition
at Premier Fives.
Registration will be situated near to the indoor
training area
05/11/08
Thanks again to Eileen for handling the registrations
and results and making
sense of the soggy paper. Thanks also to Ken and
his team at Bury for preparing
the course, which has undergone a few changes over
the years and which provided,
this year, traditional British mud. The weather
didn’t seem to put anyone off
judging by the turnout; we had over one hundred
U11s again, in fact I’m
sure that everyone enjoyed the day and will acknowledge
the hard work
and endurance of our officials who stood out in
the rain whilst we all
enjoyed ourselves.
If anyone is missed off the provisional results
or notices any errors please
let your team manager or myself know in plenty of
time before the next
committee meeting on the 12th November.
23/10/08
Please be aware that parking is limited on and around
Chesham Road near to the
finish area. Alternative parking can be found at
the former Lido, now the Jubilee
Centre, off Royal Avenue which is very close to
the course. Wherever you park,
please act responsibly and try not to upset the
local residents.
At the last committee meeting we discussed the behaviour
of athletes in the finish
funnel. When runners have crossed the finishing
line, where times are recorded, they must keep moving
in the same finish order and in an orderly fashion
until their
numbers are recorded at the end of the funnel. Several
runners were reported to
be leaving the funnel without having their numbers
recorded and more worryingly in
one case, abusing officials who were attempting
to steward them. It was decided that athletes will
be disqualified should this occur in the future.
Our officials, marshals, timekeepers and recorders
voluntarily do a vital and arduous job, often in
difficult
conditions, in order that we can enjoy our sport.
Please give them the respect
and support that they deserve and be aware that
the behaviour of a minority
can often spoil an otherwise enjoyable day.
The Bury course map is now available on the fixtures
section. Please note the new start position.
Good luck to everyone for Saturday.
11/10/08
Thanks to Ken and Eileen who deputised for Graham
Fecitt’s results service today.
Results should be available sometime tomorrow. As
usual Blackburn did us proud
with an excellent course which was very well set
out, marked and marshalled, so
many thanks to Richard Taylor and his team. One
or two clubs were caught out
by the earlier start time of 12.30 (see fixtures
section) so below are the amended
times for each race for the rest of the season.
To save further confusion it would be
very useful, and would ensure the smooth running
of the league, if affiliated
clubs could send a representative to each committee
meeting; the next one
will take place on Wednesday 15th October at 8.00pm
at Castle Leisure Centre,
Bury. Please notify team managers of any suspected
errors in the results.
Guests should notify me (Steve Duxbury).
Race Start Times
U11 Boys & Girls 12.30
U13 Boys & Girls 12.45
U15 Boys & Girls 1.00
U17 Boys & Girls, Junior Ladies, Senior &
Veteran Ladies 1.20
Junior, Senior & Veteran Men
2.00
30/09/09
Hopefully clubs have now received their
allocated numbers. Please let
Graham Fecitt have your registrations as soon as
possible and certainly
no later than Friday 3rd October by email to
Affiliation fees, if not already paid, are due before
the first fixture; please
see Joe Salt our treasurer. At the first fixture
our results team will be very busy
so it is the responsibility of club reps or team
managers to allocate and distribute
their numbers. Guest numbers only will be available
at registration.
Can I also remind athletes that handwritten numbers
are unacceptable and the
wearing of such or indeed defaced or folded numbers
will result in disqualification.
You have been warned.
23/09/09
Once again we are indebted to Glynn Woodward
from Sweatshop
at Chorley who continues to sponsor the league in
conjunction with Inov-8.

08/09/08
Please note that each fixture will now start at
12.30pm commencing
with U-11s races.
Numbers for
the forthcoming season will be allocated at the
first committee
meeting on 17th September and it is important that
every club is represented
when we discuss arrangements for the first fixture.
It will be useful if clubs are
able to pass on their athlete registrations at this
meeting, together with the
appropriate monies and affiliation fees which are
due on this date.
20/05/08
The dates for the committe meetings have
been altered. Please see the
fixtures section
for the correct dates.
20/05/08
The AGM took place on 30th April and the fixtures
have been arranged. As usual
we are opening the season at Witton Park; thanks
to Blackburn Harriers who host
several fixtures throughout the year, and it’s
a welcome return to Leverhulme Park
after a gap of several years for the third fixture.
The presentation evening is
provisionally booked for 6th February.
Many thanks also to Glynn Woodward at Sweatshop
Chorley who has agreed to
continue sponsorship of the league for another year.
Please note that handwritten numbers will not be
acceptable and the wearing of such
will result in disqualification. Athletes who lose
allocated numbers must be reregistered
by their team manager and a new number allocated.
Have a good summer and we
hope to see you all in October.
15/04/08
AGM
Affiliated clubs will already have received notification
but this will take place on
Wednesday 30th April at the Castle Leisure Centre
in Bury at 8.00pm. New clubs
wishing to affiliate must attend or notify the Secretary
in advance. Amendments to
the constitution which could affect the rules for
the forthcoming season have already
been proposed and will be discussed, so could everyone
please make an effort to
attend. The number of affiliated clubs continues
to expand but the task of ensuring
that the business of the league is carried out is
left to a small number of individuals.
Please come along and have your say.
